Eye of the Tiger

Thanks for requesting this awesome #1 hit from Survivor.  I get pumped every time I hear it. And I’m pumped to get this out to you.

I used to teach this as a beginner song to my students.  And the power chords would all be on the top E string because this made it easier for people to learn.  After observing some live performances, it seems that the first 2 chords are actually played off the A string.  Which would make sense considering you get a more bright and punchy sound from the thinner gauge strings and the positioning being closer to the nut.

I also used the think that the 3rd chord was a G5 power chord but after listening closely, I realized that it’s an Eb/G.  (3rd fret E string, 6th fret A string).  This was news to me also.  

To get the tone, I used the Brit 8000 amp head with a little OverScream in Amplitube.  And the fender twin reverb turned up to 10 so I could get a slight bit of crunchiness.  The tone settings are all on my Patreon page if you are interested in checking that out.

I really enjoyed playing this tune and creating the backing track.  It’s a fun song for beginners to learn!  There are tougher songs in the works so stay tuned 🙂
