Cliffs of Dover

By: Eric Johnson

Few notes about the video 🙂

I’m mainly going by Johnson’s hand positioning from the “Eric Johnson Live from Austin Texas” video posted on YouTube. That was the performance on December 18th 1988. Of course, there are parts from the studio take that he doesn’t play again (but he always improvises something equally amazing) so I listened very closely and took my best educated guess and did what felt comfortable for me personally.

For Bars 23 – 29, I observed from the Austin Texas performance that he picks the whole part. But in other performances, he hybrid picks that. I was more comfortable with the picking. If you are feeling the hybrid, go for it!

For the tone, I used the Cliffs of Eric preset in Amplitube 5. I made a few modifications and you can see the settings on my Patreon page. If you are interested in checking that out, the links are in the description :).

Perhaps the hardest piece on the page for me personally! It took me a month while I was balancing other projects and I kind of recorded it all in sections.

Enjoy!

Isolated TRACKS (mp3)

Here are the drums, bass and other background tracks to jam along to Cliffs of Dover. I've also included all of my isolated guitar tracks in case you really want to hear what's going on. Isolated tracks are normally very difficult to find online, and can be very helpful in cracking a difficult solo tab.
